What Am I To Do?

On May 20, 2012, in Life, by Tim Dumas

Many people are looking for their purpose.  They are looking for what God has called them to do.  They are looking for the race they are to run but they don’t know where to begin. There is not one simple answer but I will tell you where to start.  Look at what is right around you.  Look at what God has already set before you.  If you are married then loving your spouse is part of your race.  If you are a parent then raising your children to love God is part of your race.  If you have a job then work in a way that brings glory to God.  If you have had major changes in your life, look at what’s around you now.

We all start in the same place.  We start where we are.

The writer of Hebrews in verse 12:1 put it this way,

“…and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.”

Healing Soul…and Body

On May 19, 2012, in Healing, by Tim Dumas

I have heard people say that when the Bible speaks of healing it is talking about healing your heart, healing your soul, your mind or your emotions. I agree that scripture does teach of God’s desire for us to be healed and whole in our inner being but it also reveals God’s desires for us to be physically well. Look at what the Bible says in Proverbs Chapter 4:20-22 in the New International Version.

“My son, pay attention to what I say;turn your ear to my words.  Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.”

This passage of scripture specifically says “body”. He is asking or even pleading for us to attend to his words and then he gives the reason why. It is to bring us life, to bring us health!

I like how The Message version puts the same verse…

“Those who discover these words live, really live; body and soul, they’re bursting with health.”

Do not let anyone talk you out of believing for your health. God’s Word brings life and health to our souls…and to our bodies!

We have a free download, “101 Things God Said About Healing”. I encourage you to get it from our Resource section. Read the scriptures over and over. Look them up in your own Bible. Meditate on them. Let them bring you life and health to your body!

God Said Yes! Don’t Accept No!

On May 9, 2012, in Life, by Tim Dumas

I had just finished teaching a class on healing when one of the ladies in the class came up to me and said, “God told me yes!”  She went on to explain, “I’ve been praying for my son believing for God to do something but I just wasn’t sure if he would do it.  I’ve prayed and prayed but there was no confidence in my prayers even though I knew I was praying according to his Word.  Today you went over a scripture and all of a sudden I got it!  I understood!  God said yes!”

The scripture I had shared that day was, “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ.” ~ 2 Corinthians 1:20 (NIV)

The excitement on this woman’s face was electrifying.  She had been praying for her son and now she knew God had answered.  She knew that God had told her “Yes”.

What are you praying for?  If you are praying according to what God has promised, according to his Word, then the answer is and will always be Yes!  Don’t ever accept “No” because it’s not from God.

It’s time to get excited!

Will Your Marriage Hold?

On May 9, 2012, in Marriage, by Tim Dumas

“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”  Mark 10:7-9

You have probably heard this passage of scripture many times before but I want to point something out that will encourage you.  Even if you are not married I want you to read this because it may help you in the future.

I like adventure/action flicks and can’t remember how many times I’ve seen in a movie where someone had to tie, weld or fix something that would soon be tested, usually with someone’s life in danger.  Maybe it was a mountain climber hanging by a rope trying to get to safety.  Or, maybe it was a spaceship captain trusting the engineer’s repair work on the engines as they fought their galactic enemy.  Whatever the case, there was always that one person who would doubt it would work and wanted to quit and give up.  But, the one who tied, welded or fixed it would always yell, “Keep going! It will hold!”  And you know what?  It did!

Notice the part that says, “what God has joined together”.  If you are struggling and wondering if you are going to make it, I want to yell at you, “Keep going!  It will hold!”  God has joined you together and your marriage will hold.  Trust him!

I know you may feel like giving up but it’s worth holding on.  God can bring you through the fire and lead you to a place of safety and abundance.  (Psalm 66:12)

How Can I Lead Someone To Christ?

On May 4, 2012, in Life, by Tim Dumas

If you are a Christian then it’s important for you to know how to lead others to Christ because someday, someone may ask you, “How can I be saved?”  If you can remember these three passages from the Bible found in the book Romans, then you can do it.  You can be used of God to change someone’s life!

Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life inChrist Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 10:9-13 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.  For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.  For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

That’s all.  With these three passages of scriptures you can lead someone to God.  Here is an example of how.

Share with them that they are like everybody else and have sinned.  Sin earns you eternal death but God offers you eternal life in Christ and it’s a free gift for you to accept.  The way you accept it is to confess Jesus is Lord and believe God has raised him from the dead.  If you trust in God you will not be ashamed of your decision.  Just call on the name of Jesus and you will be saved!

Of course you may want to share scriptures that have special meanings to you but I wanted to give you an example in case you did not know where to start.

I’m Not A Perfect Parent

On April 27, 2012, in Parenting, by Tim Dumas

I am not a perfect parent so I depend on prayer…. A LOT!

There is a prayer by the Apostle Paul which I model some of my prayers after.  That prayer is found in 2 Thessalonians 3:5, “May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.” (New International Version)

There is nothing more important to me than for my kids to grow up with a love for God.  If they love God, it will change everything for them.

Here is an example of what I pray for my kids based on the prayer by the Apostle Paul.

“Heavenly Father, In Jesus Name I pray for my children asking you by your Spirit to lead them and direct their hearts into a love for you.”

Never give up on your kids and never give up on what God can do through you!

No Other Conclusion….God’s Word Brings Healing

On April 19, 2012, in Healing, by Tim Dumas

I hear people all the time trying to come up with answers as to why people are not healed.  Most of the time they say something like, “Well it just wasn’t God’s Will.” or they may say, “God brought this sickness to teach you something.”  Those answers are not correct and are not based on scripture.  If your belief about healing is based on God’s Word alone there is no other conclusion you can come to, God wants his people to have health.

God’s Word itself has the power to bring us healing and health.

Proverbs 4:20-22 (Amplified Bible) “My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart. For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh.”

Psalm 107:20 (Amplified Bible) “He sends forth His word and heals them and rescues them from the pit and destruction.”

God, Faith & Doctors

On April 11, 2012, in Healing, by Tim Dumas

Having a serious illness or medical condition can be a fearful experience.  If you go to the doctor you need to know that God is with you.  Some have taught that God is against doctors.  This simply is not supported by scripture.   Doctors can be used of God to help us recover from illnesses the same way God can use our jobs to bring us financial blessings.   Jesus said the sick need a doctor (Mark 2:17).  Luke was referred to as “the beloved physician” (Colossians 4:14).  If God was against doctors then Luke would not have been so beloved.

If you are sick, it’s okay to seek the help of a doctor but keep your trust in God!

When Going To The Doctor

On April 6, 2012, in Healing, Life, by Tim Dumas

When going to the Doctor, don’t make the same mistake King Asa did!

“In the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa developed a serious foot disease.  Yet even with the severity of his disease, he did not seek the Lord’s help but turned only to his physicians.”
~ 2 Chronicles 16:12 (NLT)

The New Living Translation makes this verse a little more clear than some of the others. It brings out the point that King Asa sought the help of doctors alone and did not seek the help of God. This dishonors God. It’s prideful and says you don’t need God. It’s not wrong to go see a doctor. It’s wrong to seek their help and their advice alone and not God’s. When you go to the doctor, pray and ask God for wisdom as to which doctor to see. Pray for the doctor that God would give him understanding of what needs to be done and the skill to do it. This honors God.

So what happened to King Asa after he sought the help of Doctors alone and not the help of God?

Verse 13: “So he died in the forty-first year of his reign.”

For the next week we will be sharing what the Bible teaches about doctors. Be sure to subscribe to our blog to be notified of the next post.

A Promise For Parents

On April 4, 2012, in Healing, Parenting, by Tim Dumas

“They will never again work for nothing.

They will never again give birth to children who die young.

All my people will be blessed by the Lord;

they and their children will be blessed.”
